Sometimes Food Isn't Good For You

Here are the three things I ate on Friday:

  1. Chef Boyardee Speghetti and Meatballs
  2. Burger King Chicken Sandwich and Fries
  3. Marie Callendar’s Beef Tips and Potatoes

One of these things kept me in bed all weekend due to a massive amount of… uh, well, you know what food poisoning does to you. My guess is — in the words of Anton Ego of Ratatouille — Masseur Boyardee because I was already starting to feel ill when I sat down with Cameron to have Burger King.

Before you judge too harshly about how I eat, just know that Mondays and Fridays are my hell days — 14 hours at working both jobs, so I’m on the go. Yes, I know I should eat better, but at least I’m not going to Wendy’s and having their Baconator™. I’m pretty sure that seeing their commercial is the reason I finally puked on Sunday morning.

I got a bowl of Cheerios down this morning and am slowly starting to feel better, but, man, I keep forgetting what a toll food poisoning takes on you. I think I lost two waist sizes this weekend. The shorts I’m wearing look like hand-me-downs from Dudley Dursley (It’s Harry Potter week. I had to go there.)

I was a latchkey kid, and Spaghetti-Os was a core food staple throughout my childhood. Never much cared for S&M though. (No pun intended.)

    Get well soon. :-)

I suddenly had an image of you reenacting the pie-eating scene from “Stand By Me.”

Or maybe you ate something from one of the Weasleys.

  3. July 16, 2007 at 11:37 am

We always got those as treats otherwise it was always sandwiches; however, I’ll be staying away from S&M for a while. Probably forever.

I forgot to take the other half of the pill from my Shirking Snackbox. Damn it!

Canned food (such as Chef Boyardee) is unlikely to give you food poisoning, except perhaps botulism, which kills you. On the other hand, if you’ve been eating pretty well for a while and suddenly send a lot of fat through your intestines, they are likely to rebel. It’s not so much bacteria, though, as an innovative way to lose weight quickly. Your real mistake is in failing to package this as a new diet. Revenue opportunities are everywhere, if you only bother to see them.

Now if only I can make revenue from back-handed compliments. :)

  7. July 16, 2007 at 12:20 pm

    Hmmm.

That is a very suspect diet Mr. Just how do you stay so thin and gorgeous?

  8. July 16, 2007 at 12:47 pm

Mostly that I never stop and my metabolism is still pretty high. And it’s not even drugs coz if it was Tina I wouldn’t want to eat anything.

    …so I’ve heard.

Just READING “Baconator” makes me gag a little.

  10. July 16, 2007 at 1:04 pm

See? I just threw up in my mouth a little reading that comment above.

    Then DON’T click the link!

  12. July 16, 2007 at 1:29 pm

You lost two waist sizes just by getting sick? God, I have to try that…

  13. July 16, 2007 at 1:33 pm

in my world that wendy’s baconator is heaven sent.

  14. July 16, 2007 at 2:25 pm

Regardless of what caused it, hope you’re feeling better soon!

The last time I had food poisioning, I drank about 3 full bottles of pedialyte. It did wonders to get my hydrated and electrolytes back in order. Glad you’re on the mend, now!

  16. July 16, 2007 at 3:37 pm

oh, and I love the baconator LOL

  17. July 16, 2007 at 5:09 pm

I was actually going to stop by the video store on Saturday to say hi, but I’m guess I glad I didn’t.

    Hope you feel better!

  18. July 16, 2007 at 9:04 pm

Ewwww. You sound like you need a coffee enema!

Chef Boyarde is canned shit. Sorry, it is :)

  19. July 17, 2007 at 7:11 am

AHEM! Look-it! next time you decide to get sick, PLEASE consult me first. I cant have my own sickness schedule off set by someone inconsiderate enough to outshow me with a case of food poisoning. I mean, really! Thats just outright rude. But I forgive you…., luckily I wasnt sick this weekend so that worked out great with an open slot.
Get feeling better soon. I am concerned. No, really I am! I cant have you messing up my schedule so you GOT to get better – NOW if you please. :-)

Seriously though – get well dude. I know how you feel and it aint fun. If it was, everybody would be doing it.

  20. July 17, 2007 at 10:42 pm

I love Spaghettios. I would have guessed BK, as I’ve gotten sick from restaurant food (like REALLY sick) at least 3 times. Once from McNuggets. Word to the wise: If someone hands you some McNuggets and says, “These taste a little funny,” DON’T EAT THEM.

  21. July 18, 2007 at 10:31 am

I love Chef Boy-R-D myself, well, sometimes… but haven’t had it for a loooong time. Burger King’s chicken sandwich is tres good. I approve! ahaha!

Am glad that you’re feeling better Howard. Food poisoning isn’t fun, even for just a day. Take care sweet!

  22. July 18, 2007 at 1:15 pm

Diesel – I’m with you on the Spaghetti-Os, but I make it a habit never to eat any animal part called a “nugget”.

You sure it was food poisoning? Both Matt and I have had 24 hour stomache flu in the last month that I initially thought was food poisoning too…until the fever hit and made it 100x worse

  24. July 18, 2007 at 7:22 pm

I know it takes a while to get over food poisoning, but I hope you’re feeling a lot better.

  25. July 19, 2007 at 2:46 pm

Thanks everyone. I’m on the mend; however, I’m taking it easy right now.

  26. July 19, 2007 at 7:05 pm

I’m glad to read you’re on the mend and taking it easy. xx

  27. July 19, 2007 at 7:46 pm

Whew. I’m glad you’re on the mend, too! And I have to say, I’m tired of Chef Boy Ar Dee… they helped me make it through the summer so far (canned food is good when you have no refrigerator), but soon I shall have a refrigerator! Yes! Ice cream for days! Really cold beer and soda, not just cooled by the creek!

But feel even better! we miss your comics, your good nature, and your humor when you’re not feeling well.

Perhaps we should ask Cameron how good of a patient you are when you two play doctor and patient!

    Take care!
